Night alcohol restrictions in Poland — cities, hours, and rules
Polish municipalities can restrict off-premise alcohol sales at night. We collected current rules for 20 cities, while Nocny helps you find someone who will share a bottle or lets you share your own.
What is the Polish “night prohibition”?
The common phrase does not mean a complete ban on drinking alcohol. It refers to a local restriction on alcohol sold for consumption away from the point of sale — mainly in shops, kiosks, and petrol stations.
Restricted hours
A municipal council may introduce a restriction between 22:00 and 06:00 for the whole municipality or selected districts. The exact hours and area depend on the local resolution.

Frequently asked questions
Does a night restriction ban drinking alcohol?
No. Local resolutions restrict off-premise alcohol sales at night, not drinking itself. Separate rules still restrict drinking in public places.
Which businesses are covered by the restriction?
Usually grocery and liquor shops, kiosks, petrol stations, and takeaway sales from hospitality venues. The exact scope comes from the municipality's resolution.
Can bars and restaurants serve alcohol at night?
Usually yes, when alcohol is sold and consumed on the premises under the venue's licence. The local ban targets retail sales for consumption away from the point of sale.
Does the restriction apply throughout Poland?
No. Each municipal council decides whether to adopt a resolution and sets its area and hours. Rules therefore differ by city and sometimes by district.
